Turning

[media id=31 width=320 height=240]

Introduction:

Fresh from the Carving and Spinning part of the program, this next step in the WW progression and begin to show students how to use spin and carve to turn their kayaks.

Progression:

  1. With out the use of specific strokes we need to get the feel for a turn.
  2. Have your students gain momentum. Once they are underway have them pick a target for their eyes to stay fixed on. Make sure it is at least 45 degrees to one side. Concentrate on having your students keep a nice even stroke rate through out the whole process.
  3. You can have them work on increasing the natural amount of edging that will occur with a good body wind up and good eye work.
