National Park Service
The national office of the National Park Service supports Let’s Go Paddling. NPS is the lead federal agency charged with responding to the physical activity plank of First Lady Michelle Obama’s anti-obesity campaign, Let’s Move. http://www.letsmove.gov
NPS has circulated LGP info to staff to raise their awareness of the initiative.
- National Parks Service (NPS)
- Wild & Scenic Rivers
- Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance (RTCA)
LGP and it’s Welcome Centers will be featured at the River Management Society/National Association of Recreation Resource Planners Symposium May 18 – 20, Portland OR
NPS will post LGP logo and information on the NPS website under “What’s New.” and has offered to present at the National Whitewater Symposium
NPS interpretation staff have been notified at the national office to identify parks that already offer paddling as a planned event e.g. Barataria Preserve in Louisiana — http://www.nps.gov/jela/barataria-preserve.htm . This information will be shared with LGP and updated online as it become available.
Unfortunately, the NPS national office does not have personnel to connect individually with all of the parks. Each unit operates independently and all have individual permitting processes, so it is best to connect directly with a local park to plan an event.
