It is by no means easy to find a good and safe way of landing halibuts…. and even more so from a fishing kayak. Before we went on the spring expedition to Norway, I made a tail noose that I thought would work for landing these strong fish. This video shows the second halibut we landed with the tail noose. I had specimes up to 18kg and landed them allright with the noose, but I found out that a different method will be needed, especially for bigger fish.
The halibut, when you pull him to the surface, will keep its tail down in the water, which makes it very hard to put the tail noose on.
