Wow, I’ve had a great year with kids clinics! The first one was very spontaneous because there was so many kids who wanted to work on their skills! It was in Buena Vista, CO the day after Paddle Fest. We had everyone meet at the top of the White Water Park where we handed out safety whistles and had everyone put on the Aloe Gator Skincare colored zinc oxide a.k.a. war paint! After we introduced everyone, we hopped on the water!!! We had several girls in the clinic who wanted to work on fairies so Kady Kellogg and I worked with them, while some of the boys including the Voorhees brothers and some of the Kellogg family, worked on other kids on loops, and my dad helped two kids with their rolls. After about 45 minutes, we headed down to the competition hole so all of the kids could work on surfing. When we were finished, I handed out Jackson Promo Videos, stickers, JK T-shirts, and the most accomplish kid got a spray skirt!
A few weeks later, Clay Wright asked me to help with the Beginner and Advanced classes for the Kelly’s Whitewater Park kids kayaking classes, so I volunteered for the next 5 weeks. it was awesome to see how many kids from last years beginner classes had improved (some of them even competed in the freestyle event at the Payette River Games!!! The first beginners class was one of my favorites, it was all girls who had never kayaked! (hopefully, they’ll come again next year!). I was also able to teach my first girl how to roll, it was funny because she didn’t even want to try rolling, but then she was really excited after she got it!:) Thanks to everyone who let me volunteer or volunteered for the classes, lets do more next year! Now I’m on my way to North Carolina for National Championships!
